Brompton is a locality in the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea. It is roughly defined by the triangle of Brompton Road, Sloane Street and Sloane Avenue.
The borough is immediately to the west of the City of Westminster, which is at the heart of modern London, and itself contains a substantial number of city centre facilities such as major museums and universities, department stores like Harrods, and embassies. It also contains many of the most exclusive residential districts in London which are also some of the most exclusive residential districts in the world.
Kensington is one of London’s most affluent areas and is located in the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea. It is bordered by Notting Hill to the North, Knightsbridge to the East, Earl’s Court to the South and Shepherd’s Bush to the West.
There is a mixture of housing in the area, with many Victorian mansion blocks, as well as Georgian houses on some of the side streets. The heart of Kensington is Kensington High Street, a fashionable area that is considered to be one of the best shopping streets in London. Kensington is also home to a number of famous London museums and concert halls, including The Victoria and Albert Museum, The Natural History Museum and the Royal Albert Hall.
There are a number of tube stations around the area. High Street Kensington is on the Circle and District Line, while Gloucester Road and South Kensington are on the Circle, District and Piccadilly Lines. All these stations are in zone 1.
